Time Frame & Procedure:

  • Students will have one week to complete all components of this project between both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Students will answer questions posted on Google Classroom throughout the week.
  • Students will complete 2 assignments and 1 quiz assignment.
  • Final component of this project will be done in groups of no more than 4 students practicing Quadratic Equations using features of the game Mario Kart.

NJSLS:

F-IF.1 – domain and range

F-IF.4 – max, min, symmetries

F-IF.7 – graph functions

F-IF.8 – function properties

A-REI.10 – graph = set of all solutions

RST 9-10.2 summarize a multistep problem

RST 9-10.3 follow multistep procedure

RST 9-10.4 meaning of symbols/terms

Brainy Bits:

  • There would be a good percent that students retain the information because it has sense and meaning.  The project relates Quadratic Equations to the game Mario Kart and how the shells get thrown from each car and at which angle they fly.  Students will be able to model the maximum height and how long it took to reach the maximum height.
  • DoK – this project contains all 4 levels of the depth of knowledge wheel:
    • Level 1 – Identify parts of a parabol
    • Level 2 – Graph Quadratic Functions
    • Level 3 – Compare different equations to their graphs
    • Level 4 – Critique what would happen if certain values in the equation change
